We had a new guy start on our team at work today and as soon as we met I asked him if he had lunch plans and offered to take him to lunch. I didn’t prep for it or read up on his personality style report or wait until I had a free day. I just know the sooner you connect with someone the better that relationship will be: Forever.

I’m going to try to implement this principle more because my tendency is to wait and justify to myself that I will ‘do it up right’ when i get to it…9 times out of 10 though I never get to it when it comes to connecting with people. As the saying goes: ‘You only have one chance to make a first impression’.

You can get a lot done if you don’t care about getting credit.

There are several things that are having a significant impact on my whole company right now that were my ideas and I suggested them to people who were able to execute on them. I wasn’t concerned with getting credit for the ideas, I just saw a need and shined a light on it.

Sometimes I think we fret too much about being recognized for something when we should just be helping the team …I’m learning to put more trust in the statement that ‘A rising tide raises all ships’.

Back in the Saddle…

75 days and counting…I’ve been gone too long. So after all the transition in my life lately I finally reached the sobering reality today that I don’t have an excuse any longer to not post at least every once and a while. I was brought to this revelation when my uncle sent me an email and his signature said ‘check out our blog‘. WHAT!? My uncle is like at least a full generation older than me and he has a full blown up to date blog and it actually looks pretty snazzy.  I can’t let him pass me up in our participation of the technology craze…so here I am, I’m Back! - did ya miss me!?

THE PROBLEM:
There were about 4 conversations I had this week where in the midst of the conversation I was thinking one thing but no matter how hard I tried I was communicating something else.  Within an hour after each conversation as I played it back in my mind I had the perfect words all of the sudden.

Ever happen to you?

I think vocabulary is weakened in the moment.  I don’t seem to ‘know’ as many words when I’m in conversation.

 THE GOAL: Vocab Work Outs

I’m going to try to start improving my vocabulary.  Intentionally learning a new word each day and trying to use it in conversation. I think it will help.

What is Passion?

The thought was proposed to me today that ‘passion’ must involve suffering and typically the cause for this passion has to do with something bigger than yourself.

I’ve been asking myself today “What am I passionate about?”  “What do I suffer for?”  Truth is: Not Much.

I mean I’m definitely inconvenienced from time to time but I’m wondering if I should be suffering more if that’s what has to occur for what I’m doing to matter more.

Start FAST! That’s what i heard is the key to a successful blog. So I made a small investment. This blog is brand spanking new. No pictures. No descriptions. Nothing. I haven’t even taken down the ‘hello world’ default post. But i do have what every blogger wants: TRAFFIC. Relative to the life of my blog…traffic is through the roof! It only cost 34 bucks at a cool website a buddy of mine turned me on to: mysliceofpi.com You get to purchase a number on the page and link it to whatever you want…check it out. I bought digit 45-50 and they’re all red. Chances are if you’re reading this it’s because you clicked one of them so it kind of defeats the point of promoting it since it creates what Microsoft Excel would call a circular reference. Still the goal is accomplished: Traffic Created. I’ll come up with some cool pics and stuff to say later…that can always be added. :-)
